Five Feet Down
You are the general on a small commercial addition. The footing plan along the north wall calls for a trench six feet deep in ordinary soil — no rock, no water. Your foreman Dee will need to get down in it to tie steel before the inspector comes Thursday. It is Monday morning, the excavator is on the trailer, the weather is good, and everything about this job is routine right up until it isn't.
