What the questions are like
Each question on Trade Forge Prep is multiple choice with four options, the format the CSLB exam uses. A set of 10 is a short practice test. The sets are weighted the way CSLB weights the exam. The content areas that carry the most questions on test day come up most often here.
Before the choices appear, you are asked to put your answer in your own words. That step is optional, and nothing you type is graded. Committing first means the choices test what you knew, not what you recognized.
Every answer comes with an explanation, whether you got it right or wrong. It says why the correct option is correct, why the others are tempting, and which statute or code section the rule comes from. You can read the source yourself.
The questions are written for the exam, not taken from it. CSLB does not publish its questions, and nobody who offers “real exam questions” has them.
After a set of 10
When you finish a set, you see the content areas it covered and which questions you got right and wrong in each. Every area links to its study guide, so a weak spot is one tap from the material that covers it. Then the next 10 are ready.
How to use them
One set at a time works better than an hour of them. Read the guide for any area where you missed more than one question. Come back the next day for another set.
Questions you have already seen are held back while new ones remain, so each set is new material until you have worked through an area. A free account keeps your results across your phone and computer and opens more content areas.
Common questions
Do I need an account to start?
No. Pick an exam above and the first set begins. An account is free when you want one.
Which exam should I practice for?
Every California contractor license requires the Law & Business exam. The General Building (B) exam is the trade exam for the B license. Most B candidates take both.
Are these the real exam questions?
No. They are written to cover what the exam covers, and every answer is checked against the law or code it cites.
